A Sickness Benefit is payable to an insured person, whether employed or self-employed, who is under the age of 60 years, and is incapable of work due to illness or injury not related to employment, as certified by a medical practitioner, and satisfies the contribution conditions.
An insured person must have a minimum of 26 weeks of paid contributions in the 52 weeks immediately before the date of the claim. The insured person must not be receiving any wages from an employer during the period of illness.
Substantial contribution requirement: A person is considered to satisfy the contribution conditions if he/she has at least 26 paid contributions in the relevant 52-week period preceding the claim for Sickness Benefit.
