A Maternity Allowance is payable to a female insured person who has a minimum of 26 weeks of paid contributions in the 52 weeks immediately before the expected date of confinement, and who is not engaged in any form of employment during the benefit period.
An insured woman who satisfies the contribution conditions will become entitled to the allowance from 5 weeks before the expected date of confinement through to 12 weeks after confinement, for a total benefit period of up to 17 weeks.
Benefit rate definition: The Maternity Allowance is paid at a rate of 60% of average weekly insurable earnings. The allowance covers a period of 5 weeks before and 12 weeks after the expected date of confinement, up to a maximum of 17 weeks in total.
